The rent was due, for most #SSI recipients, one week ago

There's been no move, despite the immense economic shock, to increase #SSI from just 75% of Federal Poverty to something livable

Trump admin hasn't even said they'll #FixTheGlitch so SSI recipients get $1,200 one-time
The maximum payment an individual can receive on the basis of disability from the #SSI program is $783 per month

The federal poverty level is $1063 per month

It is unconscionable that we condemn disabled folks to a sub-poverty subsistence existence, especially now
We're talking about a group of folks who are, by definition, disabled. Why, during an infectious disease pandemic, is it especially cruel to not raise #SSI from just 75% of federal poverty?

Y'all notice how expensive it is for disabled folks to protect ourselves right now?
Look, FPL is too low. But raising #SSI, even just to the federal poverty line, would be an investment in the survival of millions of the poorest disabled folks in this country.

Which is why it won't happen.
So it's not exactly a shock that the Trump administration is also resisting " #FixTheGlitch" – what glitch? Instead of sharing data between @SocialSecurity and Treasury to send out the one-time $1,200 payment to everyone on #SSI... they want to do *not that*
Instead, the Trump admin wants to make #SSI recipients file a tax return in order to get the one-time $1,200 payment.

Folks on #SSI have so little money – because #SSI is such a brutal, punishing program – they aren't usually required to file a tax return.
The rent was due a week ago today. Nobody has time to wait on IRS to process a pointless tax return.

But instead of fighting for a survivable #SSI benefit amount, we're out hearing begging #FixTheGlitch.

I hate it.
