A thread on modi government decisions after coming to power in 2014.
While all the decisions generated a lot of political capital, most of them lacked a sound logical process of decision making. The absence of elements of thinking-through while weighing the pros and cons of the decision and its long-term consequences
1. Mishandling of kashmir 1/n
This government deserves the credit of having alienated the Kashmiri people from the rest of India through a poorly thought out engagement policy. For the first time, since the 1996, removal is of artical 370 is bigget crime done by modi government
2/N kashmir: Eight month long curfews destroyed the local economy. Worse still, there was a marked increase (72%) in the number of our soldiers martyred in just the first three years of the BJP’s term and not to forget atrocities on thousands of kashmiris
Demonetisation: This would be at the top of any list for its sheer lack of success and the widespread havoc that it inflicted on the economy. While being taught now as tale in business school and it enjoys the unique distinction of having failed on every one of its objectives
3. Media capture: There has been an enslavement of the media which simply choke on any criticism no matter how innocuous of the prime minister and the BJP president. If a channel is less than pliant, it is blacked out for 24 hours, its premises are raided or shot.
4 . Rise in hatred: (1/3)There has been a sharp increase in targeted attacks on Dalits and members of the minority community. What makes these attacks unique is the state endorsement to the attackers when ministers garland them or reverentially attend their funerals.
(2/3) The message of support is lost on no one. In fact, the only coherent thread running through this government’s term has been the othering of a certain section of India. People who are blessed to be followed by the prime minster share only one other thing in common.
They are defiantly communal and abusive. Almost as if they have official sanction. Modi government did successfully convinced the majority that they have threat from minority and played the card of communal hatred
5: JOBS

When the gov has to revise the methodology for calculating GDP to make its numbers appear artificially high when capital flight on an unprecedented scale takes place when companies turn to external lenders to finance operations you know the gov has failed to create jobs
6 . CAA/ NRC
Modi gov sparked nationawide protests with this controversial bill/act which is discriminatory on all the grounds, people come out on roads to protest, shaeen bagh happened and HomeMinster had to take back his NRC statement.
7: Delhi pogrom
The BJP manifesto promised to “ensure a peaceful and secure environment, where there is no place for either the perpetrators or exploiters of fear.” Recent delhi pogrom showed state sponsored violence against Muslims and hateful face of this government
8. Environmental protection took a back stage: (1/3)one of most underreported issue, the environment ministry used a bureaucratic shortcoming to remove the ban on setting up of factories in eight ‘critically-polluted’ industrial belts, which was reported in Business Standard.
(2/3) , the government tried to undermine the independence of India’s environmental watchdog – the National Green Tribunal. In the past, NGT has often raised pointed questions about anti-environment projects. It is able to do so only because of the autonomy it enjoys.
(3/3) Acts of environmental destruction are being committed across India. A wildlife sanctuary is about to be erased from the face of the earth
