A thread: many are seeing today that we need clarity on the Father's wrath against sin and the Son's death.

At the cross, God the Father is not angry with the Son personally. He loves the Son.

At the cross, God the Father is angry with sin judicially. He hates sin. (1)
Even as the Father loves the Son, he has appointed him as the one acceptable—perfect!—sacrifice for sin.

This means death for Jesus.

At Calvary, the Father crushes his beloved Son per his perfect will and plan of salvation (Isa. 53:10; Eph. 1:3-14). (2)
This is why it is appropriate & right to say that the Son experiences “forsakenness” or “dereliction” at the cross.

It is not because the Father hates or tears away from the Son; he does not.

It is because the Son bears the Father’s just wrath against sin in our place. (3)
