My student accommodation, Ribble Brook House, ran by @Your_Housing, have decided today to NOT allow for early termination of contracts. Even for those that have moved out already, due to the virus and the university being shut. This is absolutely not okay. (1/6)
This is university recommended accommodation on UCLan campus. Even though UCLan have waived their last payment for ALL students, whether they continue to live their or not. My accommodation refused to support any students at their accommodation, even those that’ve moved out.(2/6)
This is about to bring students into further debt, for a place they’re not even living in. Hundreds, possibly thousands, of student accommodations all over the country are allowing for early terminations of contracts and waiving the last payment - to help their students! (3/6)
Whereas, this is what my accommodation does. They provide excuses and then don’t respond to emails, and then finally, make it so their student tenants will be pushed into further debt. This is an expensive accommodation, with the price being 6k+ a year. (4/6)
My student finance doesn’t even cover the cost of my flat, nevermind food expenses, etc. I would’ve handled this okay, if I was able to work, which I am not. Students can’t just claim through the government. (5/6)
That’s why universities and other private halls are helping their students, but not mine. It’s a shame they chose money over supporting and caring about their student residents, during this incredibly stressful time. (6/6)
