The way the album release game is setup is going to get you way more loses than it will gains. People aren’t consuming music the same way anymore. Those “yo check my album out” days are over! Lol
Do you understand the commitment you’re asking of someone? So you want me to invest 30-60mins on you and I don’t even know what I’m goin to get? I have this thought for some established artists, you new acts don’t stand a shot.
What does make me invest the time is if I seen how much time effort you put into your roll out. If your marketing plan, your visuals, your artwork, your presence in the marketplace impress me or intrigue me... u have now gotten me to invest.
People like Kendrick, Cole, Beyoncé, Jay, Drake etc... they can drop, unannounced, at 6pm on a Saturday and people will lose their shit and the numbers will support that.
Yes there are artists who have a solid core following and do pretty well too. This is because of all the work they put in to solidify their space in the ecosystem over the years. This list of this tier of artist is much larger.
For those still trying to carve their space in the ecosystem... drop singles! Spend time marketing your music and yourself. I’ve learned if people outside of your comfort zone really fuck with you they will support you.
Start with a few singles, visuals or other marketing tools. Then move to an EP, then maybe another single or two THEN an album. Now you have killed a few birds with one stone.
Peoples attention spans have dwindled down to nothing so just dropping an album is going to have people asking you for new music in 3-6 weeks. The way I mentioned u will promote yourself for damn near a year all while feeding people music consistently. You’re welcome.
