Over the past 2 weeks, we've participated in dozens of COVID-safe, car-based direct actions across the country, to demand the release of all immigrants in detention before detention centers turn into death camps. We are proud of the work we’ve done, but we also need to apologize.
In our national social media, we have not done enough to recognize & lift up the work done by directly-affected, immigrant rights groups we’ve been taking action alongside. This was partly caused by miscommunication & lack of capacity, but also by a failure to prioritize it.
To the groups who have been doing the work on the ground for years, and invited us to take action with you, only to see the action credited to Never Again Action: we apologize. We will do better.
In our press outreach, we have tried hard to make sure our partners received the credit they deserve, but have not always succeeded. With help from folks in NY, we're compiling and distributing guidelines for local groups on how to engage with the press to make sure this happens.
Our first car action was a plea to @GovMurphy of New Jersey, to free ICE detainees before any more get sick. These NJ actions are powered by @ICEfreeNJ & Unidad Latina en Acción ( @ULANJ) who've been doing the work since before Trump, & @NorthNJDSA.

Call @GovMurphy: 609-292-6000
Groups from New York City also came out to make all of the NJ actions possible. Shout out to @NewSanctuaryNYC, @sunsetparkwatch, & the Mexican-American Movement NYC.

Immigrants and their families and communities have been fighting for freedom in this county, decade after decade. We have fallen short in making sure that we do not receive credit for the work of others. We are sorry, and we will do better.
