Southern Hospitality means everything to me. I really don’t do things with the expectation of receiving something in return. I do it out of the goodness of my heart and that’s how everyone around me grew up too.
Many people see southerners as hateful, ignorant, poor, less than etc etc etc...but at the end of the day we are culturally rich. Resilient. Extremely hard working and beyond intelligent. And above all we give all we have.
Are there other places outsode of the South that have hospitality? Absolutely. There are giving, caring people everywhere. But where I’m from, you get acknowledged. You get treated like an old friend or family. We might have two pennies and we’ll give you one.
So especially right now in a time where we’re seeing people either giving all they have or giving nothing at all, and where people are terrified...a little southern hospitality goes along way.
As a chef from the South, hospitality comes naturally. Communion and community and caring are everyday activities for us.
