Extremely unusual statement from ADOC last night. I’ve requested to review the entire COOP plan as Dunn appears concerned that an http://al.com"> http://al.com story framed a worst case scenario as anticipated. https://twitter.com/alcorrections/status/1247325223894036483">https://twitter.com/alcorrect...
I’ve never seen this kind of language or pushback from DOC in several years of prisons reporting, fwiw. Curious to see if @aldotcom plans to respond.
As we reported last month, Alabama prisons are systemically ill-equipped to face a pandemic. Social distancing is literally impossible. Dorms are extremely overcrowded with poor hygienic infrastructure. https://www.montgomeryadvertiser.com/story/news/2020/03/19/alabama-prisons-ready-covid-19-pandemic-contagious-coronavirus/5063084002/">https://www.montgomeryadvertiser.com/story/new...
ADOC initially refused to say where its first positive employee case was located. Rumors are rampant right now, as is often the case in information vacuums. I’ve received multiple calls from incarcerated individuals per day, every day. https://www.montgomeryadvertiser.com/story/news/2020/04/03/coronavirus-families-alabama-state-prison-inmates-fear-their-health-amid-outbreak/2941329001/">https://www.montgomeryadvertiser.com/story/new...
DOC has now provided further, though still limited, info on employees who have tested positive and have data online on inmate tests. 30 have been tested, 9 awaiting results.
