Hate to be a buzz kill, but there isn't nearly enough data to draw conclusions about NYC. Here's a chart of Italy's new cases. There's a clear weekend effect, where new cases drop dramatically Fri-Monday, before normalizing midweek. I see no reason why that can't happen here...

... There was a clear mechanism causing that dynamic in Italy: fewer tests were both administered and completed over the weekends. No clue whether that mechanism is at work here, but you can't draw conclusions without considering that dynamic.
