Lately I've been thinking a lot about Harold Kushner's book When Bad Things Happen to Good People. My personal (very abridged) take from the work is that we can see the the divine, however you define it, through the acts of others when tragedy strikes.
My personal, skeptic, addition to this has been, "And you can also tell who the jerks are during these times."
Our current situation is making it incredibly clear who those who 'give a damn' are who want to help each other and those who just throw their hands up and demand things go back to the way they were regardless of the consequence.
One of my personal flaws is not being able to see past certain flaws. It's making it incredibly difficult for me to respect certain members of my family and certain friends, even though I know they're just as scared as me.
I don't have any profound wisdom in this thread, but wanted to remind everyone that we're all terrified and to be kind to each other. Pay attention to measurable numbers, not headlines. Review any fact you see online.
And pay more attention to what leadership is actually doing, not what they're talking about in press conferences.
Now that I've gotten all heavy, here's a song that always puts me in a good mood - Tears For Fears - Everybody Wants To Rule The World (Official Music Video)
