I'm self-isolating with loved ones in suburbia, not in Guelph. It makes me appreciate how awesome we have it in Guelph. Be grateful for what we have - it's a unique, highly livable community we've got there! /1
Observations from #COVID19 #selfisolation in suburbia: There are no sidewalks in the mixed 60s/90s suburb I am living in. I miss sidewalks where kids can write messages and walk/bike safely out of the way of cars. /2
I miss having interesting streets to walk along, with trees, shorter blocks and a mix of housing styles and eclectic landscaping, like my #guelphward neighbourhood. /3
I miss connected bike lanes to get me places safely. To get anywhere here requires biking along or across arterial roads and bridges over 400-series hwys with no sidewalks or bike lanes, and posted speeds of 60-70 kph. Not cool. Not family friendly. Limits us to 4 blocks. đź‘Ž /4
I miss Guelph's connected trail network that gets me into nature, connect wildlife throughout the city, and give us a softer landscape to walk along for miles. Here, stormwater management facilities are the only "parks" in walking distance and nothing is connected by trails. /5
I love how Guelph cares about the design, planning and mobility in its suburbs as much as its downtown. ALL 905 communities should take note and put as much effort into their suburbs as they do their downtowns! #guelphisawesome /end
