All Americans should be able to register to vote safely & easily. Congress should ban states from purging voter rolls during the pandemic & require states to offer online registration. And states should significantly extend registration deadlines & offer same-day registration.
Congress should pass @SenAmyKlobuchar & @RonWyden’s bill to let every eligible American vote by mail & require states to proactively mail every registered voter a ballot with pre-paid postage.
Congress should also mandate that states waive absentee ballot requirements that undermine social distancing – like sending in copies of their ID or including a notary or witness signature with their ballot.
Badly needed vote-by-mail reforms will put additional stress on the US Postal Service, so Congress must immediately shore up the @USPS to allow as many Americans as possible to vote from home.
Many voters – including voters of color, low-income voters, & voters with disabilities – may have obstacles to participating from home. States should keep in-person Election Day voting & provide at least 30 days of early voting with social distancing & sanitation guidelines.
Congress also should protect the integrity of our elections by fighting disinformation & strengthening election security. We should require states to implement robust ballot tracking tools so voters can follow their ballot at every step.
And enough is enough: Congress needs to finally do its job & provide states the funding & resources they need to guard our election systems against foreign threats & protect voters, election workers, and the public during the pandemic.
