Family,

Today will be the first day of a new sense of temporary normal. Students across Denver Public Schools will begin their first set of remote learning classes.

I understand that this is not what we hoped for, but in the interest of public health we must do our part to reduce the spread of COVID-19.

Now I want to take a moment to address some individuals that this change will directly impact.
Parents,

You begin a new journey as home school educators. you are making huge sacrifices in order for your child to have the best education. This was not a job some of you signed up for, I know that our children will be served well while you are at the helm of their education.
Educators,

You are the people that continue to keep Denver Public Schools moving forward. Today I know many of you would like to be at your schools welcoming our kids back, but I know that our children will still be served by world class educators no matter of the location.
Students,

I know that this is going to be difficult, but I will be with you every step of the way. I understand that many of you do not want to learn like this, but in order for us to return in the fall we must and we will get through this together.
Seniors,

I know this not how you wanted to end your time with us in DPS. I understand many of you were looking forward to making more memories such as senior prom, ditch day, sunrise, and more.
As we end our time with you under our wings let me be clear that you will have a graduation and my commitment is to be there to elbow bump as many of you as possible on that special day.
President Carrie Olson and I have the honor of being the SVL liaisons to the School Board and will fight alongside you and ensure your voices are being heard.

Finally, we will RISE together and when the sun rises in the morning we will meet again.
Until then let’s finish strong and I can’t wait to be with all of our Denver students as the doors reopen in August.
