I've been seeing a lot of students (not mine, just in general) discussing the amount of work they now have since remote learning/teaching has begun... And as a teacher, I'm actually very heart broken by them
(Thread??)
Something that has been top on my priority list as a brick-and-mortor teacher turned online-educator is making the transition as easy as possible
And yet it sounds like other teachers aren't doing the same or students aren't understanding why they are still being given work
If it's the former, I hope that teachers understand an 8 hour school day w/ homework may not be possible during these times
I have students working on 1 hotspot w/ 5( kids in the house
I have some who are taking on more household chores/responsibilities while their parents work
Basically, teachers, if you feel burnt out from the amount of work you're putting in to remote teaching, think about the load that has been put on your students and their families as well
However, if it's the fact that students don't understand why they have been given the amount of work: I'm sorry.
Truly.
This is a weird time, and I haven't even been able to wrapped my head around it
One thing I hope students keep in mind is: you've been able to wake up early, go to school for 8 hours, then come home and do homework... Some even have more to do after that! Sports, arts, volunteering, chores, a job...
An online lesson & some HW? You can do that! Easily!
I understand: this is a time of emotions. Good, bad, and ugly (cue the music)
But know this: your teachers are trying their absolute best to make this rewarding for you. We want more than anything to see you and be there for you in class
We are trying our hardest (I hope we are at least!) to make this transition easy.
What can students do? Talk. Tell us if you are feeling burnt out or like you have a lot of work.
What can teachers do? Listen to students, and talk. Talk to your students, families, admin
Long story short: I'm heartbroken that remote learning/teaching has been hurting our students... But I hope for some understanding from both students and their teachers
Ok phew end of thread
