I'll spare you the gorey images, but this is my life. Excoriation (skin picking) is a symptom of OCD and BDD - two conditions I'm currently waiting on treatment for.
11am - used 12 plasters.
1:30pm - plasters were either peeling or soaked with blood. Redressed with bandages.o
When I try to talk about excoriation, I get two responses:
1) "Oh I pick my fingers too it's normal"
2) "That looks painful, you should stop"
1) True. Lots of people pick/bite their skin/nails - it IS normal. What's not normal is not being able to type or use a pen because you have so many wounds on your fingertips. Or having to ask for plasters for Christmas because you're wasting so much money on them every week.
2) It is painful. Your fingertips are some of the most sensitive parts of your body, and you use them constantly. The wounds would be mildly-moderately uncomfortable elsewhere, but because you're constantly touching/aggravating them, they do get suuuuper painful...
2 cont.) I've tried. I've tried fidget cubes/spinners, sitting on my hands, wearing gloves (snooker gloves help but don't totally work), wrapping my fingers up totally. But none of these stop it. They're also all super inconvenient at points.
Sorry for this thread I'm just fed up and needed to vent.
