Prior to locking down, Miami-Dade schools also distributed 85,000 laptops to needy students so they could learn online and the district —the 5th largest in the U.S. w/a huge population of poor kids — made a quick switch to online learning for its 360,000 students

Now, no giant system that drastically changes operations amid a crisis to serve 360,000 is going to execute everything flawlessly. But as someone who covers govt, who has 3 kids in Miami-Dade schools & a wife working right now teaching kids online, I find this noteworthy 3/5
We’re not through with this crisis. It could take months. I’m not saying everything in Miami-Dade schools is perfect, that there’s no room for improvement or that things won’t go wrong. But so far, so good.

Let’s learn from this and do better everywhere. 4/5
