#21Days21Destinations This week is dedicated to #hikingafrica and I am going to take you back to our 5 day Oteniqua Hike in Knysna. The trail is up to 8 days but we opted for 5. We travelled from different parts of SA and slept over in one of the cabins. Spirits were high ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿ’ƒ
Took us the whole day to finish Day 1, body aching from head to toe. However, when the next day came we were all ready, but when it rains it pours..literally. We woke up to a rainy weather, but a mere rain never stops anything, especially if you are well equipped..also snaps away
#girlswillalwaysbegirls.... Because we were busy having a photoshoot of a life timeeee...our friend on the last frame kept it moving and we missed a turn which cost us almost 3hrs of walking to a dead-end on day3.... #hikerslife #khenkethamzansi #Outeniquahike2018
Poor Child @MhlongoSlindi(Brave Girl) ended up hiking the whole day alone coz when we separated it was around 12:00 and we only met at the cabin at 17:00. I don't know what I would have done if that was me.. What would you have done? Mind you the trail has Elephants & Monkeys๐Ÿ˜ฏ๐Ÿ˜ฑ
The other days were just a breeze, not as eventful, we enjoyed the scenery. However, don't be fooled the hike was no joke. It was the toughest I have ever embarked on. I respect this trail, I need a few years to recover before I can even think about going back for a 3 day one...
I think I called it sooner than I should have. We had our fair share of getting lost in the Wild as a group. We missed a turn on day 4 and were saved by a passing Ranger's Van. We were so close too calling a taxi to take us to the next Hut then we start again the following day ๐Ÿ˜‰
Then Day 5 came and we could all smell the finish line...The kilometers were fewer and the trail was friendly. It was Workers Day and we took some time out to make a mini photoshoot in celebration of this precious Day. We were tired but still happy to have made it to the end.
Can you see how happy we were... We had only 5km remaining. I thin the whole trail was about 77km. Do you wanna guess what was our first stop.. @SteersSA. We looked for the nearest fast food spot and ate the hell out of those burgers ๐Ÿ˜€. We were tired of oats and easy mix dishes..
It was not all doom and gloom though.... The views and the experiences we encountered were out of this world. It's one of those hikes that will have you re-evaluate your life choices ๐Ÿ˜‰ and I would recommend it...always, but please check your fitness and endurance levels first...
When the night came... We dressed comfortably and hot the streets of Knysna. Honestly, all we wanted was a three course meal and damn Knysna came through for us. While we enjoyed the views.
And then it was a wrap and the next morning we went our separate ways. I opted to not go home just yet and made my way to CPT for my #solocation
The hike can be booked via @SANParks Knysna office. It is very reasonable.
Shout out to my girls for making it possible and enjoyable @MhlongoSlindi, Siphokazi Canca and @travelwithmissj
Ohhhhhhhh I forgot to mention that we were the FIRST ever all Women group to take on this monster..... ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿ’ƒ
