Alyssa Milano is why we need socialist feminism rather than liberal feminism. Socialist feminism wants to use working class power to overthrow patriarchy. Liberal feminism wants to punish bad individuals, until doing so threatens their class interests.

Liberal feminism says Harvey Weinstein is patriarchy, socialist feminism says he’s just the ugly tip of the iceberg, that patriarchy is him AND every single person who looked away, dismissed accusations as “rumors,” and still do this with other predators in their lives.

It comes down to political economy. Liberalism is focused on the freedom of individuals, facilitated by a social contract mostly defined by property relations. Socialism is focused on the collective good as facilitated by worker ownership of the economy.

The time of liberal revolutionaries has long since passed. Their ideology is crumbling as it becomes more and more clear, from MeToo to climate change, preserving order is far more important to them than the public good. Only question is what’s next: socialism or barbarism?
