After having to jump-start my car on Saturday morning when I needed to go buy food, I realised that my car battery is pretty dead and needs replacement. So now I have to drive around the block each day to keep the battery charged during #LockdownSA so that I can purchase a .../1
...new one when I'm released.
I am also trying to break in a new fireplace, which is proving difficult with wood that is not entirely dried out like my ex's elbows, yet. I'ma need a lot of firefighters for this one, methinks.
So yesterday, on my drive around the block, I .../2
... I took the opportunity, not only to drive around more than one block, but also to stop at my nearest fuel station to purchase firelighters and perhaps some dryer wood, which they did not have. (Damn, you people cleaned out .../3
... on charka and hardekool for all those braais during #LockdownSA!)
As I approached the one-stop-shop, I noticed a police vehicle parked outside. My heart rate shot up just a little, but I knew I was entitled to buy bread and milk, so I bought .../4
... bread and milk.
And a packet of crisps. (Why not?)
And lucky for me, also some firelighters, but, alas, I live in South Africa during a time when every Koos is braaing some boerewors, so no wood.

What amused me about this trip into the garage shop with the .../5
... cop car out front, was the cop I found inside, in full SAPS uniform (he looked very important, as he had one of those light blue collared shirts with the dark blue trousers on), leaning on the countertop at the pay point, chewing on something he was .../6
... moving around from side to side in his mouth, laughing out loud and carrying on a mean conversation with the check-out lady behind the counter.
He was leaning in so close to her, she should have been able to smell his dinner from Sunday night.
Now, I have no .../7
... objection against a man having a bit of a break and a jolly conversation with a check-out girl in a one-stop garage-shop, but what struck me was the nonchalant way in which a police officer, there to serve and protect us all, especially so during this #timeofcorona, .../8
...didn't seem at all bothered by the precautions we have all been advised to take, or why I was casually strolling about the shop.
I honestly think I could have walked in and out and gone for a jog down the road and he would still be there, laughing and chatting away. 9/9
