Among Germans and many other peoples, sacrifices were practiced in bogs. These places are seen as passages between the world of the living and of the dead, trapping them in a way that they are in neither of them.
I suggest these practices as being symbolically an act of rejection of one& #39;s reincarnation. Indeed as Tacitus said, the crippled, cowards and fugitives (I.e without honour) were sacrificed in a dishonorable way.
