Seeing magwinya on the TL always make me cackle because my aunt has a shop ya magwinya, my mom worked there for years. In 2017 I moved to Cape Town and asked for the recipe, and neither of them knew it. 😂😂😂
In their defence, they make a fuckload of that stuff daily, like over 50kg worth of flour. But no one ever wrote the recipe down with measurements. My mom didn't even know the size of the salt cup, she just said it's a cup. 😭😂
Those people developed the right combination of ingredients, make arguably the best magwinya in the hood, I'm raised ka chelete ya magwinya but I can't even make them off the top of my head. 🤣🤣🤣
Between a mother and aunt who don't know recipes for things they've made daily for years and a sister who writes recipes with amounts such as "as much as you like" no one in my family wants me to remember them through food. 😭
You may ask, where was I when all these things were being made? I was a child - that's where I was.
