Is it just me or is it mind-boggling that the number of US #COVID19 deaths so far* doesn’t even come close to the number of deaths in the 2017-18 flu season (61,000)?

How were our hospitals/PPE supplies not overwhelmed then? I’m assuming because it was spread out over more time?
*10,000, which is just the tip of the iceberg, sadly, so please do not misinterpret my tweet to mean #COVID19 is “just like the flu” – it’s not – or that the response is overblown – it’s not, it’s the opposite
