Some people have been asking about my bass, what it is, and why it's colored like that. So I thought it'd be a good time for some short story time!
So this is actually an SX Precision Bass I bought in 2012. I had one bass before this but didn't really use it, so I regard this as my first "real" bass that I pretty much learned on. I did all my first auditions and shows with it.
I used it so much that the pickguard started to fade. It was at that point I thought of doing my first ever bit of customization on it!
I sanded and stripped off all the brown pearloid layer of it and put some colored bass strings cause I thought it was cool. Acceptable pa naman to nung 2013 HAHAHA
I got bored of the white on white so I tried painting it blue and scraped it again para may pagka-"grunge" effect siya. Again, pasok to nung 2013 HAHAHA.
I eventually settled on a different shade of blue, and it stayed like that for some time. May pa-jamming jamming pa ako nung Christmas nun o.
At some point I decided I wanted a natural wood finish instead, so I learned how to sand off the finish by hand, and got too tamad to sand off the layer na matatakpan anyway ng Pickguard and bridge. Gusgusin af HAHA. I put a coat of wood stain as well. Didn't turn out nice HAHA
So it ended up looking like this. Very bland, smooth, but for some reason malagkit siya cause I didn't know how to dry it well. Diy life mehn hahaha. I also painted the pickguard black naman. Eventually though I found a solution, this turning it into.....
THIS!! Believe it or not, I just wanted to make the whole thing darker, so I read somewhere na pwede mo siya lagyan ng kiwi shoe polish, so I kept putting some pero natatanggal. I'd rub off some parts and add more, then I got tired. Left it overnight, and it all stayed! Labo HAHA
Yeah man, I loved how it looked. I actually had four more instruments that I did the same process to. Strip paint, sand, shoe polish, done. But at some point I had to sell all of them for some personal emergencies.
I sold it in July 2017. After having played several dozens of shows and recording several songs with it, Kathang Isip included. I didn't think I'd need it anymore, cause at the time I owned a much more high end five string Cort bass decked out with a solid active eq system.
But ayun, I'm marupok af and thankfully the guy I sold it to was willing to let me buy it back. So I was reunited with it a solid year later. I ended up selling the more high end bass to keep only this one in my arsenal.
I did this photoshop of me as if I was on stage at a point in time na I hadn't played a single gig. Shortly after that, I started gigging and haven't stopped since. I've owned around ten or so basses since then, but for some reason I ended up with the same bass I started with.
Basically, I guess the moral of the story here is, minsan di mo talaga magegets agad agad. But sometimes, if you're lucky, you might find out na yung gusto mong maging forever, nasa tabi mo lang pala all this time. So stay with it and take care of it. Mahalin mo. Yung bass. HAHA
Sorry anti climactic. Yun lang! Hope you learned something or two haha. ✌️ Wala talaga akong conclusion. HAHA
