So, this map from 1585 has a helpful guide to all the sea monsters depicted, which we will now translate (don't say we never did nothing for you)
SEA MONSTER 1:

The Nahval. If you eateth of this fish, you dieth presently.
SEA MONSTER 2:

The Roider. Blue chap. Hath no teeth. The flesh of it is very good meat, wholesome and toothsome. The fatte of it is good against many diseases.
SEA MONSTER 3:

The Burchaulaur. Hath his head bigger than all the body beside. Also hath many very strong teeth, whereof they make chessmen.
SEA MONSTER 4:

The Hyena or sea hogge.

Does not look like a hyena tbqhwy.
SEA MONSTER 5:

The Ziphius. An horrible sea monster, swallowing the black seal, in one bitte.
SEA MONSTER 6:

The English whale. The ENGLISH WHALE? Yes, you heard right. No teeth though.
SEA MONSTER 7:

The Hroshaulur or sea-horse. It doth the fishermen great hurt and skare.

SEA MONSTER 8:

The Whale. A big boy. It seldome sheweth itselfe; it is more like a little island, than a fish. It cannot follow or chase the smaller fishes, by reason of the huge greatnesse and weight of his body.
SEA MONSTER 9:

The Skautuhvalurm. It is somewhat like a ray or skaite but an infinite deal bigger: when it appeareth it is like an island, and with his finnes overturns shippes and boates.
SEA MONSTER 10:

The Seenaut or sea cow. They have a little bagge hanging at their nose, by the help of which they live in the water: that being broken, they live altogether upon the land, and do accompany themselves with other kine.
SEA MONSTER 11:

The Steipereidur. It is forbidden by proclamation that no man may kill or hurt this sort of whale.

SEA MONSTER 12:

The Stuakul. Hath beene seene to stand a whole day together upright upon his taile. It greedily seeketh after man’s flesh.
