is it my protestantism, the lingering of a childhood raised in the lowest of low churches (aka Southern Californian evangelical), secularisation, or something else that has me completely unmoved by all the tweets about missing Holy Week or the eucharist?
like any ex-evangelical protestant, I too have tried the high church, liturgical renewal movements, the examen prayer (I liked that), retreats, the daily office, and more. But here I still stand, a liberal(ish) Reformed Protestant, whose only sacrament left is the Word
and to be honest, if I wanted more ritual and the rythm and order of the day and year, I'd become a Muslim
that isn't to say I won't find it odd to not celebrate Easter in the gathered community
now my students don't have to speculate on my faith, religious identity, or lack thereof. In the words of the great theologian @joshritter: 'we need faith for the same reason it's so hard to find'
or in my never to be written let alone published memoir: 'When it comes to faith, I'm simply haunted by the possibility of the gospel.'
