One player stands out: Kane. If he sees offers come in over the next couple of seasons (which they certainly will), what will he think about the club’s moral compass? Is it a club that has values, ethics and wider responsibilities?

It’s pretty clear we haven’t at the moment, so why should he have any sense of loyalty in that regards? Aside from fans (which can’t be underestimated, I know) why shouldn’t he go elsewhere for more money and more trophies?

As a club, when the inevitable happens, we won’t be able to throw the ‘club loyalty’ argument at him because as a club, the board have reflected that saving money has won the day, rather than looking after the lifeblood and spine of the club during the crisis.
