No matter where you are from, here is why you should NEVER buy or support The Sun “news” Paper.
A THREAD.

#dontbuythesun
The obvious for many, in 1989 The Sun printed the headline “THE TRUTH” just a few days after the Hillsborough disaster. The articles smeared Liverpool, trying to shift the blame to to fans rather than the responsible bodies in charge.
It has since been proven that it was part of a larger conspiracy in which the “journalists” were happy to spread information they knew was false in the hopes that nobody would blame the police and emergency services for their actions that day.
31 years later and Liverpool is still fighting against that reputation caused by The Sun smears, we have had a significant boost in domestic tourism with most saying “I was always led to believe there was nothing special about Liverpool” - our city suffered thanks to The Sun.
The lies: “fans attacked rescue workers as they tried to revive victims” and “police officers, firemen and ambulance crew were punched, kicked and urinated upon” and that Liverpool fans ‘were openly urinating on us and the bodies of the dead’

All of it was completely fabricated
A quote, attributed to an unnamed policeman, claimed that a dead girl had been abused. Kelvin MacKenzie was the editor at the time and he still remains in work to this day even after his shameful published lies.
Regardless of Hillsborough, which was bad enough. The Sun has been a consistent election winner - whoever they back wins, showing their influence in politics.
In 1979 they flipped allegiance from being a left leaning paper to being right wing and supporting Maggie Thatcher. Throughout the 80s they would be a propaganda paper for the tories, smearing the miners and anyone who opposed the Tory government.
They have the ability to leave careers in ruin, such as Freddie Starr who they accused of eating a live hamster - which was proven to be a lie. Or Elton John who they accused of sleeping with rent boys - another lie.
Over the years they have employed racists to write for them, from Kelvin MacKenzie to more recently, Katie Hopkins. They have never deviated from their original aims either - Sex and Sensationalism.
But above all, the main issue for me is the man who owns the paper - Rupert Murdoch.

Consistently near the top of Forbes most Powerful People list. Ex-Owner of News Of The World, owner of News Corp and FOX corporation.
You may remember News of the World - they accused British Soldiers of urinating on POWs and also their famous phone hacking scandal, which included hacking the phone of the dead school girl Mille Dowler which threw the investigation off track. (They had more scandals too)
Murdoch for years has set out to divide not only people, but nations. FOX news has been instrumental for Trump, in both winning the election and continued propaganda. No surprise to find out that Murdoch doesn’t like Muslims.
Murdochs enterprises have also got a history of pressuring nations to go to war. Through their propaganda they have been in support of almost every western military “intervention” and attack for the past 40 years and have normalised and suppressed feelings/attitudes about war.
Sensationalism is key. The Sun and Murdochs other publications have a long history of blaming and inciting hatred towards immigrants, refugees, the unemployed, religious minorities, the LGBT community, indigenous people and Palestinians - the list could continue.
Where should this take us and what should our response be?

Well right now print media is on the ropes - at the very least, don’t buy The Sun.

But for many people who know the truth, I’d advise going further. Block The Sun on social media and never ever click their content.
“But what about Sky, Fox etc”

For years Murdoch has branched into many different media companies and at times it is unavoidable to get away from him. In the knowledge that he doesn’t care about the truth, do all you can to avoid anything that has his fingerprints on.
31 years after The Suns headline “The Truth” - The City of Liverpool still struggles with its domestic reputation because of Rupert Murdoch and Kelvin MacKenzies smearing our city.

Our boycott of The Sun is one of the most successful organised boycotts of all time.
But it is more than just Liverpool. We should boycott The Sun because it is sold to the highest bidder, it doesn’t care for the truth and purposely lies for sensationalism no matter what the human cost. It doesn’t care for its large readership, it uses it to gain more power.
If you are part of that large readership, consider the lies, the people it has hurt, the wars it has taken us to, the corrupt politicians it has protected, the suicides it has brought us.

If you still support it after that, you are demonstrating your ignorance and complicity.
