a bonus about getting into all these 70s and 80s Japanese funk, fusion jazz, city pop, electronica and prog albums people keep putting on youtube is that I feel like I now know the evolutionary origins of so many clasic video game soundtracks
like... tell me this doesn& #39;t sound like a lost Sonic the Hedgehog song set in a casino or neon-light industrial zone. how many old game osts owe Casiopea for their general vibe? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XaFhfPT1ev0">https://www.youtube.com/watch...
this one sounds like a Mario Kart Rainbow Road track. I know I gotta be last to the party on knowing how much Japanese game music comes from Japanese fans of these genres, but still https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VTvtFv41Ntw">https://www.youtube.com/watch...
I was listening to this one while working today and it doesn& #39;t conjure any specifics games, I just like this electronic ambient stuff now https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kGu8xI21VTg">https://www.youtube.com/watch...
since I& #39;m just now in the "here& #39;s albums I found on youtube that I just liked" part, this one is psychedelic peruvian disco https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IhgnxSSc8gQ">https://www.youtube.com/watch...
literally the only good thing to come out of algorithms was the vinyl recommendations
I don& #39;t actually know what any musical genres mean, but this one sounds to me like the I& #39;m going on an 80s fantasy movie adventure genre. that or maybe the space aliens took me to a desert planet and I have to ride the synthworm to earn my freedom genre https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6wImHbQiRmw">https://www.youtube.com/watch...
this one also sounds like both a vaguely remembered 80s fantasy movie soundtrack and a "symphonic suite" arranged album for a falcom rpg about dolphins you find on napster https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aKvMLu0oTkU">https://www.youtube.com/watch...
dear god I just imagined trying to play a hypothetical ecco the dolphin action rpg made by early falcom and I think I had a stroke
following up on this thread from last night, I listened to more of the ambien artist Hiroshi Yoshimura (from the Quiet Forest album in this thread) and, yeah, wow I can DEFINITELY hear his influence on a ton of games, especially, oddly enough, Mario Galaxy and Odyssey.
