So.....hospital workers in general are facing a horrific pandemic crises, and all of them are being traumatized, and plenty will develop lasting psychological problems. What are we doing to support them, besides just clapping on our stoop every night?
Are we....nationalizing the hospitals so they can focus on caring for the human beings suffering in their halls? Or are we letting atomized, business-ass hospitals shut down and lay people off due to the pandemic interrupting the cash flow from overcharged sick & injured people?
Are we....providing ongoing free mental health care to all hospital workers, so that they can learn to deal with these horror? Or are we only allowing the full time workers to so, for a co-pay more that their hourly wage?
Are we making it cheap as fuck to get a nursing degree, so more people will try it? Or are we making ot so prohibitively expensive no one can afford to quit if they find they are not suited, or too burnt out to provide humane care?
Are we paying people enough in the fucking first place so that when they are invariably burnt out or traumatised, they can quit with the full knowledge that they can afford the time and space to heal and find new life? Or are we keeping them paycheck to paycheck until they snap?
Are we providing free job training so that these traumatised workers can go into different lines of work that sustain and sooth them in their new nontraumatising career? Or are we asking them and their to go into thousands of dollars worth of debt just for a chance at peace?
Are we nationalizing the hospitals to create a system that streamlines their workflow to they can do their goddamn jobs? Or are we wasting their fucking time with medical coding and transcription to satisfy the bureaucratic profiteers of the insurance industry?
Are we providing patients free fucking drugs like insulin of oral steroids so they can survive without having to ration the very chemicals of life itself? Or are we charging them so much they have to take risk after risk until some nurse has to watch them die unecessarily?
Are we zoning our damn cities so that they can live within a safe half hour walk from work, be they doctor or be they janitor, so they can spend that much more unpaid time with their family? Or are we forcing them to live hours upon hours away, since they don't deserve a family?
