I shouldn't need to say this (but obviously I do, it's been bothering me all day) - but if you have insults about being fat in your show, if being fat is the punch line of a joke, if your villain is fat and that's the only person you refer to by body type - you're the problem.
I don't care if it's a long-held comedy tradition, do better. And yes, everybody does it - THAT'S THE PROBLEM. I'm a relatively together person who's worked on self-image for a long time, and you still hurt me - there are people you're absolutely crushing for your stupid jokes.
I don't care about, "They only use that as an insult because they're evil and obviously wrong!" Pick something else; say something else. Think how the insults you choose will affect people, especially things they hear and internalize every fucking place in the culture already.
If you want to write fat characters who are heroes, who are the nuanced center of your story, and maybe *they* make a self-deprecating joke or two because it's part of their struggle and how they deal ... maybe that's another thing. But I don't see that very often.
