🚨 Film Thread!!! 🚨

I need more of this dude.

Darrynton Evans, Appalachian State Mountaineers.
Combine: 5'10", 203lbs, 4.41 40-yard-dash.

2019:
255 carries, 1,480 yards, 18 TDs.
21 receptions, 196 yards, 5 TDs.

Let's go.
I'm starting with the 2019 game against Charlotte. Obviously lesser competition, but the numbers are absurd.
234 rushing yards and 3 TD's. Let's get it started.
Okay, so, pause.

The first play from scrimmage was an 80-yard TD that literally any RB could score on. The alley up the middle for him was WIDE. OPEN.

I will say this though - his speed looks like it's there on tape, and he set the safety up and then blew past him.
Nice little inside power run, kept the legs churning and moved the pile for 3 yards. You love to see it.
Lined up in the slot to the right, runs a pretty good out right. That's good versatility to see, even though he didn't get the target on the play.
Just had a really nice pass blocking rep. That's fantastic to see. Absolutely stoned the linebacker.
Alright here's a nice run. I love when you get to see multiple skills in one play. Good vision to see the lane open up to his left, hits it with confidence, puts a good cut on the defender for a little extra yardage. That's a rep that he won.
I'm going to add this - if Evans played with an actual QB, he was open for like 3 receiving TD's in the first quarter and a half of this game, but the QB didn't decide to throw his way, for whatever reason. He can run routes.
A few times now, I've seen that Evans doesn't show a good ability to break tackles. That's a little concerning. I'm hoping to see better showings of that going forward.
Okaaaaay this is sweet. Good patience, good vision, lateral agility to bounce this to the outside for a nice gain. And you LOVE the physicality to finish instead of just tiptoe out of bounds.
Evans got them down inside the 5, so they went right back to him. Good patience, contacted at about the 2, and had the surge to get it in. Pretty solid from a back that's just over 200 lbs.
Dr. Evans has room for one more patient today, but only if it's a HOUSE CALL.

Again, more of the same: Vision, agility, burst, and then... whoooosh. 🏃‍♂️💨💨💨
Position: weapon.

Anytime you see a skill player used on special teams, especially the hands team, it means the coaching staff identifies them as a superb talent. He secures the onside kick, and then just decides to run it back for good measure.
That was the cherry on top for that game. Let's move on to Evans vs South Carolina. Definitely a bit more of a test. He was held more in check in this one: 23 carries, 85 yards, 2 rec, 32 yards. No TD's.
First run from scrimmage - he has a great jab step. His ability to put his foot in the ground and make a defender miss in short areas is pretty strong.
Nothing crazy special here, but very sound. Foot in the ground, sees the hole develop, is very decisive, hits it with burst and finishes forward. Those are the kinds of runs that Offensive Coordinators love - get a quick 5-6 yards on first down.
Loooove this. Option pitch, in traffic, breaks a tackled that would have stopped him short, got past four defenders, and picks up the first down. So much wiggle, and showed some good strength here. (And yes, the network cut the secondary highlight short, not me.)
Just a general observation here: He struggles to break tackles at times, but I'll give him this much - he finishes forward on a large majority of his runs.
Y'all like subtle moves? I sure do. That's how you set up a WR blocker that doesn't even know he's blocking, kids.
