on today's episode of subjects way too hot to touch that I don't even have a personal investment in and shouldn't abstract out of context into a thought experiment on post-carceral justice:

is it good/possible for people to exit abusive communities and rehab or nah [ctnd] 1/
the past few yrs getting into leftist theory I've seen a lot abt rehabilitative/restorative justice & it's made me think "Idk I guess maybe it's good to incentivize people to leave harmful behavior/communities behind to lessen the scope of influence that could create victims" 2/
but then it's like where does that stop working because there's a lot of shit that's Really. Fucking. Gross. and as good as "less victims", "less abusers", and "people aren't disposable" sound as concepts, when do I stop thinking that works in practice? 3/
Theft? ok that's easy to imagine fixing especially because it's usually motivated by class inequity and structural violence and also I don't feel even remotely bad about people stealing from billion dollar corporations lol. but domestic abuse? murder? paraphilia? 4/
objectively "human life having redeemable value is conditional" sounds fucked up but what about in context? if someone draws loli shit then exits that community and never makes it again am I ever gonna be comf being around them, even if they really did leave that behind? 5/
because uhhhh whew CP is fucking repulsive and I do not want anything to do with that. or you know, current discourse and all, animal abuse is fuckin terrible, if someone exits that community is that good? does it even matter? 6/
I'll be honest, even YEARS AND YEARS of therapy would not help me want to be anywhere near Kero like lol nah I'm good and it seems like years of alleged inactivity from Java/WL hasn't done much for her with most people. 7/
I dunno why I'm thinking about all this because lol I do not fuck with abuse in any terms and boy howdy I don't want anyone to read this as apologia. Probably way too wild of a topic to be waxing philosophical on but welp I'm already 8 tweets in. 8/
lizard brain is like "it's good if there's less abusers, that means less victims right? you shouldn't ever engage with an abusive/destructive behavior in the first place but STOPPING is.. something right?" but then you apply that to real life and it's like HM WELL DEPENDS. 9/
theft? idk if it's from hobby lobby who fucking cares fuck hobby lobby I stole like 20 copic markers from those clowns when I was 19 lol.

murder? I dunno, was it a politician that endangers marginalized communities that I really fucking hate lol.

ζ? uh. CP? u h . 10/
for legal purposes I have to tell you that murder is bad most of the time lol, for legitimate moral reasons I have to tell you animal and child abuse is fucking real real real goddamn fuckin bad and never ok. just you know. to be extra clear on that. 11/
the point isn't ever being ok with -what someone has done- because lol no not gonna happen EVER. it's more with these concepts of justice and rehabilitation, can people ever be ok again after they leave that behavior/community behind? 12/
the wreckless no context theory optimist in me wants to say it should be a good thing for people to get better, the rest of me is apprehensive -at best- about a lot of the potential offenders. 13/
anyway yeah idk what the point of this thread is, maybe I'm just asking if anyone else has been like "ok how far can I test the ideas of restorative and rehabilitative justice, hmm.. ok, ok, uhhh pushing it but if you're better I guess that's good, OH NO NOPE WAY TOO FAR" 14/
I'm actually just rly lost in the weeds on this one now so maybe it's just a "sometimes I think abt rehabilitative and restorative justice, most of the time it seems like a good idea but at a certain point wow this is now a really uncomfortable philosophy exam question" thread.
