kagehina au where kageyama daydreams about hinata’s smile constantly to the point where he can barely stand to be around hinata’s actual smile... getting all flustered with a red face, choking on whatever he was eating, it always ends in him abruptly standing up and dashing off+

and unfortunately for him hinata is Always. smiling. hinata doesn’t really catch on until they start dating and he misunderstands, wondering if something’s wrong, and concludes “kageyama must think i’m laughing at him whenever i smile...!” and feels guilty,

and does his best to contain his smile/laugh to a more neutral face whenever kageyama is around. this leaves kageyama super confused and alarmed & after a few days he’s practically wilting to see that smile again

and he starts to think that HE did something wrong and hinata is angry at him.... making him antsy which also sets off hinata... so after about a week of mutual fretting and suffering they finally confront each other in the clumsiest of interactions...

kageyama just blurting out “i’m sorry for whatever i did.” and hinata who was about to blurt out “i’m sorry for hurting your feelings” just so surprised and staring at kageyama who’s trying to hide his anxiety by kicking at the ground but hinata can see it in his eyes

and hinata just exclaiming “WHAT?” startling kageyama who just kind of gestures with his hands and quietly goes “you stopped smiling...” and hinata goes beet red bc he didnt even think kageyama would really notice... sputtering out “b-because! you!”

kageyamas just staring at him confused so hinata just. *gestures wildly* “you always run away and stuff! i don’t want to hurt your feelings or anything, even though i swear i’m not laughing at you, i don’t know, i-“ and kageyama just. flicks his forehead.

hinata starts whining a “what was that for?” but then he spots kageyama very poorly attempt to hide his reddening face in the collars of his uniform. and hinata just goes. “...kageyama?” and kageyama refuses to look so he bends his knees and looks right up at him,

a “tobio?” and That’s It for kageyama who starts stammering about “you didn’t hurt my feelings dumbass” and “get away from me idiot” but his face is red and his eyes are so shaky and vulnerable and hinata can definitely see through it. and it Clicks.

and a grin just starts overtaking hinata’s face and he makes sure to make it even more blinding and bright than usual, and his suspicions are confirmed when he seems kageyama’s eyes widen and blush deepen and spread all the way to his ears

and kageyama can tell hinata’s figured it out so he just groans and covers his face with his hands and goes “shut up. shut up. i hate you.” and hinata just cheekily going “hmm???hmmm???” and trying to peel tob’s hands off so he can stick his face (+smile) in his bf’s face

+ kageyama makes the mistake of peeking out between his fingers and hinata spots him and starts laughing, a “kageyama tobio’s in love with me~” in a singsong voice. tobio just starts walking away with red ears and a “shut up!”

but ofc he doesnt take 2 steps before hinata’s launched himself around his waist, and teasing “you didnt deny it though?” and kageyama doesn’t answer, but his pink ears speak for him, and hinata’s grin softening, before “don’t worry, i’m in love with you too.”

kageyama didn’t know he could blush any harder until that moment. [end]
