gidle oh my god mv theory thread !

a (not so) small thread by yume aka me !

this is the second time i’m doing this cuz it DELETED ITSELF the first time so please cut me some slack if i come across as exhausted cuz i am

also i’m gonna use abbreviations a lot cuz character limit !

in the first scenes we see minnie being dragged while she lays deadweight/unresponsive and soyeon tumbling and wandering around in a seemingly drunken state. this along with minnies tone and the instrumental gives a very haunting, sultry, cinematic aura

now we see yuqi running from something we can’t see then falling to the ground. see the lyrics, especially “let yourself in”. note the lyrics in miyeons scene, as well as the shot shown between cuts

the chorus comes and we are shown the first shot of the shadowed/black hands. they surround soyeon trapping her. and they branch over minnie caging her as well. we see them both lay down at the end, surrendering to the shadowed figures. note the use of “she”

our first shot of sj! she’s laying on a pedestal structure with the black figures kneeling calmly behind her. note how when soyeon sang the prechorus she said “help me / set me free / so sick” while soojin says “rush into me, come in”. we can see sj has a v different role here

soyeons rap shows even more of the plot. she compares the temptation to a “call from hell” and is surrounded by barbed wire which is usually used to keep someone in or out of a place. soyeon raps abt how resisting is useless and goes on to lick the wire - even if she gets ...

hurt it is worth it because the feeling is that good. we then see soyeon walking towards a high pillar with billowing sheets around it. shadowed hands reach towards it in a worshiping manner, gravitating towards the pillar. i think this is soyeon giving in to the shadowed figures

unlike before, now miyeon has shadowed figures below her. she’s on a pedestal structure like soojin but here the figures move restlessly. w minnie and soyeon they captured them but miyeon is protected by the tall pillar

back to yuqi, she is describing this feeling as blazing fireworks so intense you may burn along w the burning rose imagery. we see her fall into a void as well, like soyeon, she gave in. note her makeup change as well, the red tears under her eyes

the chorus comes again and this time w sj leading. the lights sporadically flash different colors in a dizzying, an almost hypnotizing way. note how in her solo scene she was bounded by ropes on her arms but here she is freed like she was never bound in the first place

now we see minnie with shadowed black hands, she is still fighting but looks exhausted. staring blankly into the camera she makes the motion of sh-ooting herself with her blackened hands

we cut to a close up of an apple, a symbol of temptation (adam and eve), then are shown a group shot. sj, w the apple in hand, sits on the same pedestal like structure with yuqi and soyeon sitting beside her. the rest of the members who haven’t given in are standing ...

but note shuhua, she lays on the floor and is the only one not looking at the camera. this comes into play in her solo scene

shuhua is standing on a tall pillar (like miyeon) with a billowing dress reaching to the ground. she looks like a goddess of purity. white figures kneel before her just like the black figures in soojins scene did. it’s also the same set as miyeons

the music stops and we are shown soojin leaning in to whisper smth to shuhua before suddenly soyeon takes her place. note the lyrics in the first screenshot. we also see what - now whom - soyeon was walking to

they also whisper smth but i have yet to find a translation,, if someone knows please tell me or link me to the source ! okie moving on

as the whispering stops we see a silhouette with figures at her feet and the words “from the bottom of my heart/with the most sincerity”. with the lyrics before and this quote we can assume this connects to the concept of truths and lies ...

the lyric “whatever people say, fall in love” and this quote suggest that whoever is speaking this quote (we assume soojin) is masking their truth. she will lure them with sweet words and empty promises to eventually capture them

now we see that the silhouette was in fact soojin. the rose petals falling (refer back to the burning rose) and her makeup give off very sinister feelings. we also see soyeon in this mud like terrain, coating herself in it, grasping it like she needs it to survive

finally we see minnie, curling in on herself as the black shadows seem to overcome her. she ends up in the same place as soyeon, “she fell right into it”

although the mv ended i will note a few things. i think soojin had already tried to capture shuhua but lost her. she wants shuhua back and hunts other girls in replacement. (hence the whisper scene) shuhua tries to save the other girls but there’s only so much she can do (miyeon)

soojin is the “lie” while minnie, soyeon and yuqi are her victims. shuhua is the “truth” as she tries to protect miyeon from falling victim to those lies.
