I’ve been rethinking my personal branding strategy I’m going to thread some thought in here.
I got an instagram account with the same name as this one, but the community is so lacking there (for devs) thanks to @jorge_codes for showing me the light (twitter). Every interesting person in here. Thought Twitter was dead.
I used IG to make chapters (or the gist of them) for a book I wanted to write, made the bet to invest many hours in each post. Talkinb about 8h each post. Insane I know. The book is about funcional programming tools for javascript.
In the process I discovered the importance and complexity of Social Media SEO (to give it a name), meaning, how to use hashtags. And decided that it was a comprehensive enough problem for me to tackle. I wanted to made a product to check hashtag use.
At the beginning I wanted to do YouTube really, but thought those videos where too long, so thats why I started on Instagram. I’m as ready as I can be for YouTube now. So I want to use YouTube, Instagram, Twitter and... Medium.
My current thoughts for using Twitter
: thought and social, because here are the devs I would like to interact with if ever. Instagram is not social for programmers at all (or it wasn’t for me), so, microblogging and open thoughts in Twitter.

My current plan for Medium: Write the book as an open publication and write paid posts for publications. The open book is because I want to share what I think made me a better programmer and use that impact to be know. The paid posts are for passive income.
Trick in Medium is that they pay through Stripe and I currently live in Chile a country Stripe doesn’t work with. I’m getting consulting to see how I can open an account in the US to get paid through that account. That cost money to do and maintain.
I think is worth to invest on that counseling and opening and account in the US, even if the Medium stuff doesn’t payoff. But I hope it does really.
My plan for YouTube: personal vlog so far, I want to expand random ideas, that are too intense an annoying to bash to my friends, maybe there’s an audience for that. Making videos for Instagram is quite therapeutic, YouTube should be better.
I want to monetize YouTube, I’ll start aith the vlog because I feel i need that space, but hopefully I come out to a clear channel idea to monetize, like stuff about code, talk about code without being boring is difficult.
And making quality content takes TIME, I want to get used to the discipline of being consistent before deciding to make a topic channel with quality/produced content. Meaning I want the vlog to be as little edited as possible.
Me Instagram strategy: I’ll create a dedicated account for my product, and used as a vlog for the product, targeted to the potential audience of the product: content creators and social media managers/marketers. But hightly in deepth of the product.
But I already have an Instagram account... I’ll use that as a hub to show stuff about my programmer/entrepreneur life, like the rest of instagrammers whose content is not particularly trending for instagram.
I’ll add a last one to the mix, LinkedIn. I want to market myself as a freelance as well, guess I can do that there, what to specialize in automated testing, really love that area. All my content for that is going to go to linked in.
And a personal page, as a hub to link all of this together. A static page that shows all my content: Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, Medium, LinkedIn, GitHub, email.
To finish my personal branding ambitions I want to make courses. Such a cornerstone, deliver value, get known, make money, but, I need to finish stuff first, and have time for clients. So no courses for this month.
In order of priorities: Instagram product needs daily posts, Medium members content hope to write daily as well, after I can have an account to get paid, Medium book then LinkedIn and YouTube. YouTube being the less frequent. Twitter any time i want to use it
This seems like much, I’ll dedicate part time to this, think is worth it and I’ll double down, well more like tripple down. Try to be really smart with my time. Hope to achieve balance. The other half time is to keep building the product.
