We can’t be friends if you haven’t watched Remember the Titans #heyheyheygoodbye https://twitter.com/espn/status/1247191091847274499
Why Remember the Titans is the greatest sports movie of all time. A thread
1. Let me set the scene: “In Virginia, high school football is a way of life, it's bigger than Christmas day.”
2. Plot: Set in the 1970s, RTT tells the story of a racially divided town. Through the perspective of the players, the coaches, and their families we see the town work through generations of prejudice to rally around their newly integrated high school football team.
3. What about this plot sets RTT apart from any other sports movie about an underdog?
4. Most sports movies follow the same plot:
-meet the struggling team
-learn why they suck
-star player overcomes an obstacle
-montage of them getting better
-they win the big game
-you figure out the lesson learned is to a) never give up b) work as a team c) bla bla bla
5. RTT does not follow this overdone, basic, cookie cutter plot.

The movie is BASED ON A TRUE STORY PEOPLE...
-the team is NOT struggling (athletically)
-there is no ONE star player
-the montage is of them kicking butt
-*spoiler* they win, EVERYTIME!
-too many lessons to count
6. So what about RTT makes it so great? We’ve already covered plot.. so let’s move into the characters

Up first, Coach Yoast and Coach Boone
7. Coach Yoast: the definition of taking one for the team, he sacrifices getting his head coaching job back when he realizes how his team is being sabotaged. Not only that but he gives up his Hall of Fame nomination instead of giving into racism
8. Also this speech: “you make sure that they remember FOREVER the night they played the Titans”
9. Very few people, and none that come to my mind currently, could have done what Herman Boone accomplished in 1971 when three public high schools in Alexandrea VA were integrated into T.C.Williams High School.
10. Take a minute to learn more about the real Herman Boone.. We’ll be back
11. Coach Boone: aka Denzel -Oscar and Tony Award(s) winning- Washington enters the movie into what would be for most an impossible situation. Each game he faced one of two outcomes: win or lose the job
12. Quick rewind to when Coach Boone first arrives in Alexandrea “You’re our coach!”
13. In the beginning his coaching method is misunderstood
Example: before training camp he is approached by two white players dictating their positions on the team. Coach Boone lets them know REAL QUICK that they will be on HIS team and not vise versa #Whosyourdaddy
14. While his intro to the team, namely the scene that includes a personal favorite quote "There aint a bum on the streets that look as raggedy and ridiculous as what I'm looking at now" stands out
“Who’s your daddy“ is by far one of the best Boone scenes
15. This is followed closely a scene that sets the tone for integration for the remainder of the entire film... if you watch any clip in this thread, this is the one I recommend most
