If it’s anybody other than Larry Atkerson then it’s flat out wrong. Larry averaged 27.2 Ppg, 14.6 rpg, 6.1 bpg and 4.0 apg. Statistically that’s as good as ANYBODY in our area in a very very long time...
Additionally, Larry led his team to a 10-0 league record and D3 quarterfinals all while facing double and triple teams every single game. If your argument was level of competition, then check this: against non-league competition which was ranked by max preps as the 3rd toughest..
In Kern County, Larry averaged 29.3 ppg, 13.2 rpg, and 7.3 bpg. Including a 38/18 game, a 32/19 game against a high major, eybl established big, and a 18/22 game against one of the best teams in the state, Campolindo...
There is NOBODY who has an individual resume that compares to this in the county, period. There were most definitely better teams than North this year, but there were most definitely no better players than Larry...
This is said with a great deal of respect for many other Kern County players who had magnificent seasons but this award isn’t for team success; it’s the “Player of the year”. And there is only one correct answer...
