Discovering that most people's cultural entry point to Ewan McGreggor was Star Wars and that's so bizarre to me.
For me, McGreggor will always be tied to the early films of Danny Boyle, smack dab in the middle between Tarantino's irreverent crime romps and Fincher's nihilistic thrillers.
Trainspotting was actually a really major hit for a foreign drama. It made a big splash worldwide and was largely responsible for making McGreggor a star.
It really kind of shows you where the 90s were that so many of the biggest films were R rated dramas that revolved around heroin addicts.
Hell, even Ben Stiller made a heroin chic drama in the 90s that no one remembers.
Bye if y’all have never seen SHALLOW GRAVE, fix that immediately. It’s astonishing how fully formed Danny Boyle arrived. It’s brilliant.
