Alrighty, episode will be done in the next few hours - took time to do because it's a longer one. In the meantime, one more Amazon found footage movie - "Leaving DC," about a guy with obsessive compulsive disorder who decides to leave the city and live in a house in the woods...
...and something starts stalking him. Hopefully will be fun!
10 minutes in and I'm just jealous of this guy's house and how big it is. Sure, you live in the movie middle of nowhere and larger houses are cheaper (it's the sane way up here - we could get a house on the border of Wisconsin that's huge, hut it would nean being like an hour...
...from civilization and no thanks there), but it's just really nice looking. This is also so far just one guy (trailer showed we'd have another person later), but unlike Incident in Montauk, this guy is pleasant and charismatic enough to carry it.

Yes, I will keep comparing...
...things to Incident at Montauk even now because that movie holds the title of worst found footage I've ever seen.
Alrighty, had his visitor - a woman in his support group that he clearly has a crush on... Though we can tell from his dialogue that he's got a bit of a dark side to him as he grumbles to himself about how she'd "never let him touch her, anyway".
He keeps hearing abd recording strange noises outside his window and has decided to buy a handgun for himself. Fair enough, especially when living out in the woods, but West Virginians - is there NO waiting period for that? I can believe it in this country, but figured I'd ask.
Okay, so he joked about ghosts earlier but despite his motion camera picking up weird shadowy shapes out there as well as the camera being taken to the weird cat skull in the woods and then back again, he's not thinking ghosts at this point?
Okay, he admits the possibility that it could be supernatural, but he really doesn't want that to be the case. 16 minutes left and I'm not sure where we're going with this, since while there's some IMPLIED backstory, there isn't any solid explanation yet.
Okay, dude? The missing camera has been returned to you INSIDE YOUR HOUSE with an image on the memory card depicting the dead cat no doubt used for the skull. Supernatural or not (IT'S GHOSTS, ASSHOLE) it's time to leave the woods.

You can get away from the city without...
... being in the haunted woods. It's called the suburbs! What soes nobody ever remember the suburbs exist?!
Okay, so we potentially have an explanation for the spirit and the advice is very much in the same vein as in, say, Paranormal Activity - don't disturb the ghost, just be accepting and kind and eventually it'll fade away on its own. Problem is, as we kind of demonstrated with...
...the woman he was crushing on, he's A BIT of a douche - so he's grumbling about how "Not disturbing HER?! But she's rhe one making MY life miserable!" Thing is, though... She really isn't. He's dwelling on it a lot, but the spirit hasn't actually done anything violent...
...or aggressive towards him. He just heard the chopping sounds when he had his window open and some flute music.
Just saying, feels like this is an "Am I The Asshole?" Post in the making.
...and the answer would be yes, you are the asshole as he follows that scene up with him ranting about the woman he had a crush on holding hands with another dude in their group and other assorted things.
And done! Kind of a non-ending - more an IMPLICATION that the ghost is doing something to the camera (unless there was some shot in there of the dude being dead that I missed).

It's an OKAY movie, but I wouldn't necessarily recommend it. While not really boring for ME...
...I know a lot of people would probably find it repetitive with the many shots of him at his desk showing off the weird noises he found in the night, but unlike Montauk there's actually stuff HAPPENING in these segments that can keep your interest and curiosity. It's a good...
...first draft, but it needed a lot more. The isolation and creepiness work for it, especially as we eventually get a kind of explanation for the ghost's behavior (nothing ever explained about the cat skull or the dead cat picture), but the thing about having him alone like...
...this without any huge scares that you'd find in, say, Hell House or later Paranormal Activity movies, is that this makes it a character study. It's a DECENT character study - as I've been demonstrating throughout this thread, the seeds are planted here of a toxic guy who...
...wants the affections of this woman and we see his bitterness grow until the very end, where after he thinks he sees her with another guy, he drinks at night and goes off to try to shoot the ghost (and the movie seems to imply that that does not go well), but it's VERY...
...sparse throughout the movie. The premise is that he's sending these vlog updates to his OCD support group, but we never hear any reactions from them about what's happening - are they ignoring him? Have they pretty much cut him off because of this weirdness or because they...
