Something most people didn’t see during the mayhem of the discourse about my thread is that a few people who followed me from it reached out privately and asked me for guidance to help them with their faith as they leave evangelicalism. That makes it all worth it for me. 1/4
Despite the ruckus my thread caused, people reaching out to me to vulnerably ask for help as their entire world, which was wrapped entirely in evangelicalism, has fallen apart is why I *will* remain public in my exploration of my own theology. 2/4
My theology will surely be much different a year from now. And those who follow me will certainly witness it. Me doing exploring theology publicly gives others permission to explore different theologies for themselves, especially those who were unable to in evangelicalism. 3/4
If it weren’t for people like Rachel Held Evans, I wouldn’t be a Christian today. Her exploring her own theology publicly gave me permission to explore mine too. Even in the midst of all the chaos that ensued, if I can be a Rachel to even just one person, it will be worth it. 4/4
