My dad walked with me to his sheds and gave me a huge amount of his old pipe fitting tools yesterday. Wedges, torpedoes, nut splitters, squares, and more.
It was a bittersweet moment for me as he pillaged through his old things. Since I was a kid, I always wanted to be my dad...

He attracted me to the pipe world, to welding, and just working hard to support a family and one self.
These are tools that have his blood, sweat, and tears. I'll forever be grateful, as well as forever care for them and hand them down.

He's retired now, but it's something I know he's proud of, that I followed his footsteps and made a decent life out of his work.
For the welders and pipers out there, this will mean a lot to you. He even gave me his old blue book. Yeah, it was awesome. I love my dad.
I have my own pipe bible, but I'm going to frame and preserve his.
There's nothing else in the world I'd rather do than fit pipe and stack iron on them. It's fun, it's hard work, it's vital, and it's America. My dad did it for 30+ years, and I hope to continue doing it even longer through semi-retirement. I love it that much.
I wish I knew how to get old photos on here. My first pipe job was with him at the shipyard, and I just learned how to weld, and I ran a small pipe job on my own and he was the shop foreman at the time and took a picture of us next to my work. It was Top 3 proudest moments ever.
Anyways, it was a cool thing. I'll be using some of his tools he gave me tomorrow just to keep the tradition going.
