Jomboy’s thread yesterday about terrible baseball field dimensions inspired me to take a google maps road trip today, so here’s a list of some of the worst high school baseball fields in the state of Colorado. Please enjoy
I’m going to start this thread with a personal favorite: Rangeview. You can’t really tell from this picture but yes, that’s a hill sloping up in right field
Thompson Valley was the sight of the last high school game I ever managed (a Chatfield Chargers no-hitter 💪🏽). The right field foul pole isn’t the whole way down the fence and aaaaallll of that left field foul territory is in play
Dimensions-wise, Evergreen isn’t that bad, but cmon, look at that infield. It doesn’t make any sense
Fountain-Fort Carson. Just look at it
Eagle Valley features a frankly bizarre right field area
Not only does Standley Lake feature a bizarre, cut-off center field, it also has a horrible warning track
Battle Mountain is some sort of monster
Take a look at Palmer High. No idea what’s going on there but it’s not good
Kennedy High School features no warning track whatsoever... aside from a section of right field that occupies the softball field’s infield dirt
Montrose high school features a football field in left, so watch out for oblivious linemen
Mullen is a pretty nice field, aside from the lack of any sort of foul territory and- believe me- not nearly enough padding on the building.
Douglas County looks like somebody took scissors and chopped right field out
Littleton High has a strangely deep left-center for an otherwise (somewhat) round park
Grand Junction Central features a rare double-squeeze on both sides of the outfield
Rocky Mountain boasts perhaps the most extreme example of a Fort Collins staple: football outfields. There’s no fence out there. I learned that the hard way.
Delta High turns in to a rectangle in left for some reason
And finally: what else could it be
