PSA: Fundamental tenet of our system of justice is we are all presumed innocent until guilt is proven B.R.D. (or admitted). That presumption benefits all people, esp those who are unpopular. A conviction when quashed is voided & a person returns to a state of presumed innocence.
I disagree strongly with Fitz here. You are allowed - indeed you should - in our system be prepared to criticise the decisions and reasonings of courts at all levels.
PSA: for very sound takes based on the law (we seem to be awash with a tsunami of bad takes) I strongly recommend @jeremy_gans and @jamesmiller62 today.
A society that accepts this reasoning will, indeed, be Hobbesian before very long https://twitter.com/sallyrugg/status/1247318487376130048
Again: we are all presumed innocent until guilt is proven B.R.D. (or admitted). That presumption benefits all people, esp those who are unpopular. A conviction when quashed is voided & a person returns to a state of presumed innocence. Sigh. https://twitter.com/barriecassidy/status/1247326640255799301
Australia has a massive Civics problem. We need to be honest that a huge number of people who should know better are ignorant, either through laziness or through Augustinian invincibility. Am today most thankful for our Constitution having no specific freedom of the press.
