JUST IN: Acting Navy Sec Modly apologizes to Cpt. Crozier, whom he removed from the helm of the USS Roosevelt.

"I do not think Captain Brett Crozier is naive nor stupid," Modly says in a statement.

This statement comes shortly after President Trump said he would get involved and seek to mediate what he cast a dispute between Modly and Crozier.

"I believe, precisely because [Crozier] is not naive and stupid, that he sent his alarming email with the intention of getting it into the public domain in an effort to draw public attention to the situation on his ship," Modly's statement reads.

"I also want to apologize directly to Captain Crozier, his family, and the entire crew of the Teddy Roosevelt for any pain my remarks may have caused," Modly continues, in statement released by the Navy.
