It’s been this way for a long time, but it feels especially obvious today that reality is a partisan construct.
Republicans are blocking citizens from voting, carelessly facilitating their deaths, focusing relief efforts on enriching their donors and allowing Donald Trump to encourage people to, in essence, conduct medical experiments on themselves. These are facts.
But our media is barely framing this as a choice than an entire political party is deliberately making, despite the stunning and outrageous complicity of virtually every GOP elected leader, especially governors.
Earlier tonight, the President of the United States said that his political opposition should not be “allowed” to win. Shortly afterwards, a GOP dominated SCOTUS affirmed along a party line vote that Republicans have the right to suppress voters in any way they see fit.
This is really happening. It’s not a joke or pretend. Republicans are saying that elections are only legitimate when Republicans win them. They are reorganizing rules to make Democrats choose between their lives or their ballots. They are consolidating power.
And in the midst of this crisis, we’re still all playing along by rules of decorum, because it would be “rude” to suggest that an entire political party wants to rule as a minority faction while plundering the tax monies of the majority for their own enrichment.
