repeat after me diversify your writers room the diversity in your characters is only going to be good representation if the the writers know where the characters are coming from

a table of white writers will never be able to fully comprehend the issues poc face, a table of cishet writers will never fully understand the experiences of lgbt+ people, a table of able bodied writers will never be able to understand what it is like to be disabled, etc

you can try to show many different types of people but as long as you ignore the capable writers who know their experiences it will always seem phony true caring representation means giving the actual people living these lives voices

last part of my little rant but this also prevents tragedy p*rn way too often have I seen producers say they did something in the name of drama or representation and it just ends up leaving the community it’s supposed to represent uncomfortable bc it’s just pure tragedy
