Adam Silver, in his interview with Ernie Johnson @NBA, on if he has a better sense of where things stand now than he did when the NBA shut down: "The short answer is no."
Adam Silver says he's told his people with the NBA that there will be no way to have a real answer about where things are headed in terms of starting the season again until, at a minimum, May 1.
Silver says that no decisions have been made about whether there will be regular season games if the season resumes. He said "in an ideal world" there would be. He also says that, at some point, things get too late in the calendar before they begin to impact next season.
Silver says that the NBA has "looked a lot at" playing games without fans. Says that the health and safety of everyone in the NBA is paramount in anything that the league does.
Silver reiterates his message from the conference call with President Trump over the weekend, as @wojespn reported: he would like to see sports help lead the way in restarting society, if it can be done in a way that allows for everyone to be safe and healthy in doing so.
Silver: "Beyond crowning a champion, what would the symbolism be of sports starting back up in this country?" Reiterates that, once sports get the "all clear," the sports leagues are going to be "ready to go."
Silver says the conference call with President Trump was an "old-school" conference call. No video. Says the leagues were contacted earlier in the week, but that conference call wasn't set for Saturday until Friday. Silver said that Trump said he'd been watching old sports on TV.
Silver says something he's been thinking about a lot throughout this downtime is how the NBA can improve the fan experience.
Adam Silver: "I think we are all realizing how much we miss live sports."
Silver says what's keeping him up at night is the "55,000" jobs the league creates, including all of its game-day workers.
