HOW TO OVERCOME 5 COMMON WRITING OBSTACLES

Here's a thread of @khemaridh's thoughts (& a few of my own):

1. "I don't have an audience."

You don't need one to write.

Build it and they will come.

Or not.

Writing creates value for you either way.
2. "I don't know which tech stack to use."

You don't need a tech stack to write.

Post on social media.

Post on @Medium.

Use @Substack

Don't worry about SEO or analytics.

Just eliminate friction and start sharing your ideas.
3. "I need a unifying theme for my writing."

No, you don't.

Write what interests you.

What you care about.

What you know (or are trying to figure out).

As @khemaridh says, "The early days of writing are experimentation and feedback loops."
4. "I want to write something contrarian and original."

Nothing is original.

Consume great stuff, summarize great stuff, mix influences, combine ideas, distill experiences.

Play.

Just aim for valuable.

As @khemaridh says, "Synthesizing existing ideas is itself a new idea."
5. "I'm scared of being judged."

Be OK with just being OK at first.

No one is great at anything when they start (see the last tweet in this thread).

They get great by starting anyway.

Plus, no one is judging you - they're too busy worrying about who's judging them.
