shipping has never been about canon. that's not why we do it. this sudden shift to the idea that you can only ship something if it's got a high chance of becoming canon is Not Good and definitely steeped in homophobia because it's only ever queer pairings that see any shit for it
its less that we want a queer ship to become canon and more that we want queer rep from the beginning. we want queer characters set up to develop into a relationship from the outset. no more 'will they even be canon' and more 'how much pining will they do first' bc its guaranteed
we want to watch shows where we don't have to wonder and /hope/ the writers are brave enough to write queer characters in relationships only to be disappointed when they're paired off in het relationships at the last minute. it's tired and boring. do something else
until then i'm gonna keep making characters queer and shipping them because if showrunners won't give me representation i'll make it myself
