The day Ochako Uraraka was paired with Katsuki Bakugo for combat training in their second year at UA she knew it was fate.
Friends and family alike told her she was crazy when the two decided they would become a duo, and even crazier when the two announced that they were seeing one another.
Opinions on their mental state died down the minute they said β€œI Do” to one another and gone silent altogether after the duo made number four -the π‘“π‘–π‘Ÿπ‘ π‘‘ team to ever rank in the top five.
While the two were an unstoppable force, it was no secret that Katsuki’s arrogance got him into more trouble than necessary; Ochako having to clean up the mess more often than not. Not that she minded doing it, they were a partnership after all: professionally and personally.
She just hoped he wouldn’t get himself killed in the process of trying to become number one.

Unfortunately, Ochako’s greatest fear was put to the test the day that Tokyo Skytree blew up, a villain launching an attack on downtown during rush hour.
β€œGround Zero?” Ochako’s comms crackled as she raced through the streets, the debris of collapsing buildings crashing down around her. β€œHas anyone heard from Ground Zero?”
β€œI’m on my way,” she heaved into the speaker, covering her face with her hand as best she could to keep from inhaling the ash and smoke.

β€œUravity, no! Fall back!”
β€œI can’t leave him!” she choked, quickly dodging out of the way of a slab of concrete hurtling towards the street below.

β€œYou were given orders!”

β€œHe is my β„Žπ‘’π‘ π‘π‘Žπ‘›π‘‘!” Ochako snapped, stopping to catch her breath.
β€œAll the more reason to--” the voice in her ear cut out as she muted it, listening for any signs of her husband above the roar of the villain attack.
π‘ƒπ‘™π‘’π‘Žπ‘ π‘’ 𝑏𝑒 π‘Žπ‘™π‘–π‘£π‘’, π‘π‘™π‘’π‘Žπ‘ π‘’ 𝑏𝑒 π‘Žπ‘™π‘–π‘£π‘’, π‘π‘™π‘’π‘Žπ‘ π‘’ 𝑏𝑒 π‘Žπ‘™π‘–π‘£π‘’β€¦ she chanted in her head as she activated her quirk, pushing herself above the wreckage to see if she could spot her favorite head of hair in the carnage.
An explosion came from one of the few remaining buildings to her right, the concussive shock ripping through the air. Ochako braced herself on some exposed rebar so as to not go flying, shielding her eyes from bits of rubble piercing the space around her.
A second explosion came, deafening and as swift as the first.

Forcing herself to look, her world collapsed as quickly as downtown Tokyo had; the number four hero’s unconscious body free-falling out of the building, the shock of the explosion launching him into the ruin below.
β€œKATSUKI!” the scream was ripped from her throat.

π‘π‘œ, π‘›π‘œ, π‘›π‘œ, π‘›π‘œ, π‘›π‘œ, π‘›π‘œ, π‘›π‘œ, π‘›π‘œβ€¦

Propelling herself as fast as she could she leapt out into the sky, wishing she truly had the ability to fly… to save him.
Years of training, of practicing as a duo, not once had they anticipated this: a situation in which π‘ β„Žπ‘’ would have to save β„Žπ‘–π‘š.

πΉπ‘Žπ‘ π‘‘π‘’π‘Ÿ, π‘“π‘Žπ‘ π‘‘π‘’π‘Ÿ, π‘“π‘Žπ‘ π‘‘π‘’π‘Ÿβ€¦
Bounding off of falling slabs she pushed herself harder, reaching terminal velocity as dust and towering plumes of ash blinding her. Nausea tore at her stomach as she launched herself like a human missile,
, the fear of the inevitable seizing her as she caught sight of the man she loved plummeting to the asphalt below.

π‘†π‘Žπ‘£π‘’ β„Žπ‘–π‘š, π‘ π‘Žπ‘£π‘’ β„Žπ‘–π‘š, π‘ π‘Žπ‘£π‘’ β„Žπ‘–π‘š, π‘ π‘Žπ‘£π‘’ β„Žπ‘–π‘šβ€¦
Her vision grew blurry, the edges turning black as she exhausted her quirk, hours of evacuating citizens paying its toll.

π‘†π‘‘π‘Žπ‘¦ π‘Žπ‘€π‘Žπ‘˜π‘’, π‘ π‘‘π‘Žπ‘¦ π‘Žπ‘™π‘’π‘Ÿπ‘‘, π‘¦π‘œπ‘’ 𝒉𝒂𝒗𝒆 π‘‘π‘œ π‘ π‘Žπ‘£π‘’ β„Žπ‘–π‘šβ€¦
The altimeter in her HUD of her cracked helmet ticked down the meters to the street below.

600.

500.
Her throat was raw, a primal scream muffled by the wind around her as she reached out. The angle was wrong, her math skewed in her head as she defied physics to save the love of her life.

400.

300.
Her vision came to a pinpoint, her body on fire as she desperately tried to reach for Katsuki. If she could just π‘‘π‘œπ‘’π‘β„Ž him she could save him.

200.

100.
She felt her body go slack, her world turned black as her body slammed into a wall of broken concrete. The wind was knocked out of her, senses flooding back, the pain of assuredly broken ribs snapping her back into reality as adrenaline flooded her system once more.
50.

She was too late. Dread filled her as she and the piece of building plummeted downward, unable to see, unable to find him.

25.
Ochako ripped her helmet off as she slowed her descent to prevent from smacking into the pavement. The reality of what had just happened refused to speak truth into existence, denial giving her the smallest shred of hope that he had somehow saved himself.
Feet touched the ground as the dust settled, no Katsuki insight.

β€œKATSUKI!” Ochako screamed, no sound coming out. Her eyes stung from tears she refused to acknowledge. β€œKATSUKI!”

Silence enveloped everything, save the exception of a crackle, a voice over a comm.
Ochako ran towards the sound, her legs unwilling to move, fatigue taking hold again. Covered in soot she found Katsuki’s collar, voices screaming through the damaged speaker. β€œHelp… way… hold.”
A gauntlet caught her eye as she knelt, realizing that she was surrounded by the fractured pieces of his support equipment.

Bile rose in the back of her throat, causing her to double over.
700 meters above Ochako heard another explosion, her heart skipping a beat in the hope that it was him.

𝐡𝑒𝑑 π‘€π‘–π‘‘β„Žπ‘œπ‘’π‘‘ β„Žπ‘–π‘  π‘ π‘’π‘π‘π‘œπ‘Ÿπ‘‘ π‘”π‘’π‘Žπ‘Ÿβ€¦

Her mind twisted into the infinite possibilities, settling on one common causality: the villain behind today’s attack.
Her vision went from black to red, rage pumping through her blood as she stood to find her fourth, no fifth wind. Her quirk seemly activated itself, her legs launching her from the ground before rationale or reasoning could stop her.
Ochako had wanted to become a hero to rescue people. But what do you become when you can’t even save the ones you love?

A pink blur raced to the top of the building, landing inside the busted out wall her husband had fallen from, vengeance tearing at her soul.
A pair of dark eyes turned to meet her, a wicked smile spreading across the villains’ face. β€œI was wondering if you’d show up,” the woman snarled. Ochako recognized her in an instant, a rare escapee of Tartarus who had been on the run for months: Noshinto, the Concussion Villain.
The woman brought her hands up, clapping together to create a shock wave.

What she hadn’t anticipated was that Ochako had mastered her quirk, years of training with Katsuki, of him pushing her beyond her limits.
He’d helped her discover that her quirk works both ways: negating gravity as well as accede it, multiplying the gravity of anything she touched tenfold.
It was Ochako’s turn to smirk as she stood her ground against the concussive blast, her feet unmoving. β€œDidn’t think it was going to be that easy did you?”

Noshinto glared at the pro hero. β€œGuess I get to take out the other half of the duo.”
Ochako released one end of her quirk to activate the other, her hand touching the wall beside her. β€œNot today, bitch.” The building shook as Ochako ripped the wall from its frame, the floor from joists, concrete splitting and bursting in two as she threw the villain off balance.
The other woman clapped again as she fell to the floor below, the gravity-free concrete hurling out in a sonic boom as Ochako released. Weighing herself once more she punched through to the villain, her fist making contact with the woman’s sternum.
Flying backward Noshinto slammed into a crumbling wall.

Ochako charged, spearing her through the wall into the open air of Tokyo’s skyline. The two free fell for half a heartbeat, Noshinto smacking her hands together over the top of Ochako’s shoulders, blasting the two apart.
The villain clapped again, her blast propelling her away from the next building over, strategically controlling her descent.

Ochako floated just long enough to spot the woman before releasing, compounding her gravity to increase momentum.
Angling her body toward the villain’s predictive pattern she caught hold of her, launching them both through high rise windows, glass shattering as the two rolled into an evacuated office.
Noshinto pulled herself to her feet before Ochako could stand, both of them bloodied and bruised. Clapping Ochako flew backward, catching hold of the bottom of the window frame before she was thrown out of the building. Glass cut into her palms causing her to scream.
β€œNot so high and mighty now,” the villain heaved, trying to catch her breath, β€œare you, Uravity?” She raised her boot and stomped on Ochako’s fingers, forcing her to let go.
Exhaustion tempted her as she fell, her quirk sputtering out each time she tried to slow her descent.

Floor after floor she fell, the ground closing in.

Her eyes fluttered shut as she accepted the inevitable, memories of Katsuki flashing like a film strip.
𝐼 π‘™π‘œπ‘£π‘’ π‘¦π‘œπ‘’, Katsuki’s last words to her that day filled her consciousness, pulling her from the temptation of sleep.

Ochako’s eyes flew open, her body slamming to a stop mid-fall, a sensation in her lower stomach settling out her equilibrium.
Her vision cleared, her body no longer feeling the pain of her torn hands or broken ribs. Her heart steadied as she prepared herself for what she had to do.

Turning she encumbered herself, headlong towards the street, tightening her frame to decrease resistance.
A grin Katsuki would have been proud of took her face as she narrowed in on her goal, knowing she had one shot to pull off a move he had only ever theorized with her.
Latching onto a flagpole last second, mere floors from certain death, she spun releasing her gravity simultaneously. Flipping back up into the air she slingshot towards the top floors flying faster than she had ever gone before.
Through squinted eyes she could see Noshinto standing at the edge of the broken windows, surprise written on her face as the gravity hero propelled into her, grabbing her arm with enough force to dislocate it.
Negating the villain’s gravity the two shot upward, the woman attempting to use her quirk to no avail. Screaming Noshinto flailed as Ochako rocketed them into the night’s sky, overlooking the entirety of the city.
Just as the air became too thin Ochako slowed their movement by halves, able to see the curvature of the earth, her fingers and toes numb from the freezing temperatures.
Noshinto’s eyes went wide as she realized what Ochako was about to do. β€œYou’ll die!” she screamed out through gasping breaths.

β€œI died the minute he did,” Ochako said with a cold expression, multiplying their weight to begin her controlled descent.
Like a meteor the two fell, bodies going from hot to cold and back again as the speed knocked Noshinto unconscious.
Determined, Ochako stayed the course, the two piercing through the top floors of the crumbling building, the shock bringing tons of steel and concrete down with them.

𝐼 π‘™π‘œπ‘£π‘’ π‘¦π‘œπ‘’ π‘‘π‘œπ‘œ, she thought as her world went dark.

*************************
β€œCheeks?”

All at once, pain flooded Ochako’s being, the world seemingly underwater.

β€œCheeks?”

She struggled to open swollen eyes, bright lights and the scent of antiseptics assaulting her senses.
β€œGet the fucking doctor in here!” Katsuki’s voice echoed a hundred times over, rubber banding within her mind.

πΎπ‘Žπ‘‘π‘ π‘’π‘˜π‘–.

Ochako attempted to sit up, able to make out silhouettes and shadows.
β€œLay back down, Angel,” she felt warm hands on her face, the stinging telling her it was battered and bruised. β€œYou can’t move. Not yet,” his voice was full of panic despite him trying to hide it with his tone.

β€œKa--” Ochako tried to speak, her throat raw and void of sound.
β€œWhere the fuck is the doctor?!” she heard him scream once more before slipping back into darkness.

****************************
β€œPlease fucking wake up, Cheeks.”

Ochako felt her body pull her back to the light, her pain having subsided, the steady beeping of a heart monitor.

β€œKatsuki?” she managed to whisper, eyes slowly opening.
β€œOh thank fuck,” Katsuki exhaled, eyes bloodshot, face tear-stained through layers of grime and soot.

β€œYou… you died,” she croaked.

Through a clearly broken nose and a busted lip, Katsuki smirked. β€œGonna take more than some hand-clapping bitch to bring me down.”
β€œI saw you fall--” Ochako began to cry, the tears stinging her face.

β€œFour Eyes snagged me last second,” he shook his head, hand going to his sides. β€œFuckin broke four ribs.”

β€œTenya?” Her head spun.
β€œHelp was on the way,” his expression darkened, brows furrowing. β€œWhat the fuck were you thinking?”

β€œYou 𝑑𝑖𝑒𝑑,” Ochako sobbed defensively.

β€œYou should have waited--”

β€œYou died!”
Katsuki’s nostrils flared as he blinked back tears. β€œHow could you be so reckless?” he whispered.

β€œHow could π‘¦π‘œπ‘’?” Ochako shot back. β€œWe're a π‘‘π‘’π‘Žπ‘š.”
Katsuki broke, his face distorting as tears fell. β€œI saw you fucking π‘‘π‘–π‘ π‘Žπ‘π‘π‘’π‘Žπ‘Ÿ into the sky, Cheeks,” his voice cracked β€œWhen you came back, when you crashed into the building… I thought… I thought…”
Ochako forced her body to scoot over in the bed, making room for her husband. He stood with a groan, clutching his ribs as he crawled in beside her, holding her as close as he could without hurting her.
β€œDon’t ever fucking scare me like that again.”

β€œDon’t ever die on me again,” Ochako curled into him.

The two held each other silently, Katsuki kissing the top of her head, fingers interlaced with one another’s.
Time slipped by, minutes to hours before either spoke.

β€œI pulled off the slingshot,” Ochako whispered, the sun rising through the hospital windows.

Katsuki leaned back, the sparkle back in his crimson eyes. β€œYeah?”
β€œFlagpole,” she said proudly.

β€œThat’s my girl,” he kissed her softly, bruised lips brushing against split ones.
A knock came from the door, a doctor stepping in. β€œOh good, you’re awake,” he smiled, shutting the door behind him. β€œSorry for the delay. Quite a few patients after last night.”

Katsuki went to get up but Ochako held firmly onto his hand, his body settling back in around her.
β€œYour charts came back,” the doctor said, walking over to the end of the hospital bed. β€œShort of a mild concussion and some bruising we have yet to treat, you and the baby are perfectly healthy.”
β€œBaby?!” Katsuki and Ochako asked in unison.

The doctor blinked, double-checking the name on the folder he held. β€œOh, I see congratulations are in order.”

β€œI’m having a--”

β€œBaby?” Katsuki finished the question, sitting up with a grunt.
β€œYou’re about thirteen weeks along according to the ultrasound they did.” The doctor reached into the file, pulling the image from when they had triaged Ochako.
β€œSurprised you didn’t know,” he said with an aire of shock in his voice. β€œThough I suppose it’s common enough among female heroes, given how active and busy your schedules are; easy to miss a cycle or two.”
Katsuki practically snatched the sheet from the doctor’s hand, holding it up to look. β€œWe’re having a fucking baby,” he smiled, looking back at his wife.

β€œI’ll, uh, send the recovery nurses in here in a bit,” the doctor shuffled towards the door to leave.β€œGive you two a minute.”
β€œWe’re having a baby,” Katsuki repeated, handing Ochako the ultrasound.

Ochako burst into tears through a wide smile, her lower stomach fluttering once more -reminding her of those few seconds before she heard Katsuki’s words in her head.
Katsuki shifted in the bed, resting his hands on her stomach. β€œExplains why your ass--”

Ochako swatted at him playfully through tear-filled eyes. β€œI told you I thought I was getting fat,” she laughed.
β€œI fucking love you,” he smiled, peppering her stomach with kisses through the hospital blankets.

β€œI love you too,” Ochako grinned down at her very alive husband.

Husband. Partner. Soon to be father.
